Bike Week Blog

For those of you who don’t know, the 13th to the 21st of June has been #BikeWeek15. It’s the biggest nationwide cycling event in the UK and it’s an annual opportunity to promote cycling showing how easily it can be applied to everyday life for everyone.

Here at The Bicycle Hub, we obviously love cycling and wanted to share with you why we do. Therefore, we’ve compiled a list of five things to love about cycling:

1.    Less stressful commute – Cycling is a great way to commute to this office, providing you live relatively close. After a long day at the office, you can enjoy the weather (if it’s not raining!) and appreciate the environment around you.

2.    Doing your bit for the environment – Many people nowadays have to rely on cars as their main mode of transport to do the weekly food shop and the school run, but we can all help by maybe swapping the car for a bicycle once in a while. Imagine this, twenty bicycles can be parked in one car parking space and it takes around five per cent of the energy and materials used to make a car to build a bike.

3.    Healthy Exercise – Exercise can be hard to fit into our busy schedules, but introducing a small cycle ride into your day can provide you with a healthy amount of gentle exercise. Cycling is a low-impact type of exercise for toddlers, adults and pensioners and is one of the easiest ways to keep fit. By cycling you can lose weight, reduce stress and get fit all whilst still getting around!

4.    Quicker transport – You might even find that cycling to a specific destination may be quicker than actually travelling in a car. Research shows that by cycling you can average around 12-15mph and cut out the rush hour traffic by taking shortcuts.

5.    Happiness – With all of the above helping, you will ultimately become much happier! Exercising by cycling will help you experience a deeper more restful sleep and reducing stress and fatigue. You will feel great helping the environment and getter to places quicker. You might just be able to enjoy the sunshine! (When it’s out!)
