The Bicycle Hub in Cheltenham is a family run, independent business and we are proud to be supporting the Association of Cycle Traders (ACT) with their Local Bike Shop Day campaign on Saturday 5 September. Data reports are showing that cycling levels during lockdown rose by up to 300% on some days, and with the government offering 50,000 Fix Your Bike vouchers as part of its Better Health campaign, two key themes for the day will be getting kids cycling to school and keeping the nation cycling into the Autumn.
Here’s our top tips on why it’s good to #supportyourlocalbikeshop
We’re independent – this means that we aren’t tied to certain suppliers for your needs. If you need a particular part, accessory or bike then we can help utilising one of the many suppliers that we work with. Just recently we helped a local family with a child seat, which they couldn’t get online or any other retailer in Cheltenham. We spoke directly to the supplier, ordered it and it arrived 5 days later.
Personal service – our customers are the lifeblood of our business, so it’s important that we take good care of them! We can provide personal recommendations and advice helping people to get back in the saddle more quickly and cost effectively than many online retailers. We are currently in the process of implementing a new system, which will help us schedule servicing and bike hire even more efficiently!
Expertise – Our team all know a thing or two about bikes (you’d hope they would!) but because we work on such a variety of bikes, repairing faults and replacing parts our knowledge and expertise is pretty immense! We’ve been operating as a separate business since 2014, but our Managing Director Steve has been fixing bikes for over 30 years; maintaining a bike hire fleet for our sister company Compass Holidays.
Flexibility – as a family run business, we don’t have to go through huge protocols to be able to adapt and offer our customers what they actually need. If a product line isn’t selling, we can change pricing to favour the sale, if a customer needs to access a product we can make it happen, if we find a fault with a bike that we weren’t expecting we can discuss the solutions and get you back on the road.
In celebration of Local Bike Shop Day we will be holding a free bike marking event with Gloucestershire Constabulary from 10am until 2pm. The event will provide an opportunity for your bike to be marked and listed on the Bike Register website, ensuring that if your bike was ever stolen it could be found more easily. We are also offering free bike safety checks and discounts on security products.
