Spring is on its way: what to look out for when cycling

As Spring starts to emerge, with the first signs of sun over the hills, its time to dust off those shoes and bike helmets and get ready to be back in the saddle.

After a few long months of darkness and cold weather, here are our top tips of what to look out for and do when cycling through Cheltenham in Spring:

  1. Snowdrops

Transforming the woodlands, the sight of snowdrops throughout Cheltenham and the Cotswolds signifies a welcome end to Winter and the first signs of Spring. Be sure to take a few snaps of the incredible carpets of snowdrops that can stretch across the landscape!

  1. Hill Views

With Cheltenham being home to many stunning hills, areas such as Cleeve Hill

  1. Ducklings in the park

There is a popular off-road cycling route running through and around Pittville Park with stunning scenery and landscapes including a large lake surrounded by wooded area. You might be lucky enough to spot the first duckling gingerly swimming around on the lake.

  1. Perfect picnic spots

Spring is the best time to park up your bike and find a lovely picnic spot to relax and enjoy some well-deserved food! We can suggest Bourton-on-the-Water as a gorgeous archetypal Cotswold village that boasts many pretty picnic spots; or the scenic Mallards Pike in the Forest of Dean that provides ideal spots for a picnic as well as some accessible cycle trails to explore.

  1. Steam railway

Fancy venturing out that bit further? Cycling to Cheltenham Racecourse and then catching the train from their station would be the perfect way to travel to many beautiful cycling destinations, such as Winchcombe, Broadway or Bourton-on-the-Water.
