If you were asked to name the busiest train station in the UK your immediate response may well be Paddington, London or Piccadilly in Manchester. You’d be wrong on both occasions.
In a surprising twist, Cheltenham Spa train station has been named the most used station in the Country.
The number has reached two million per year which demonstrates a year-on-year growth of a massive 278% since the 1997/1998 figures.
So what does this mean for the future of the Station?
The news has been music to councillors’ ears and has helped to validate the renovation and improvements that are planned for the station in the not too distant future.
“We understand that Network Rail and Great Western Railway plan to progress upgrade works in 2016, which will be welcomed by passengers and the people of Cheltenham” explained Councillor Steve Jordan.
Also the likelihood of a cycle lane from Bishops Cleeve that ends at the station is becoming more of a reality meaning Cheltenham Bikes is in a healthy position to benefit in the New Year.
We’re ideally placed on the station and already enjoy a healthy number of visitors from curious commuters. This ultimately means that we have reached two million people in 2014/15 and hope to continue to work along with the station in attracting visitors to Cheltenham.
